When I See You

When I see you now,
I don’t just see the person in front of me —
I see the years we’ve carried together.
I see the way your hair caught the sun
When we first met,
And the way your hands looked holding our child.

I see the long talks on quiet nights,
The silly fights we forgot to finish,
The meals we made from almost nothing.

I see your strength in every wrinkle,
Your joy in every line around your eyes.
I see the way you have loved me —
Not just when it was easy,
But especially when it was hard.

And I hope you see the same
When you look at me.
